Dr. Sushma Gangisetty joins Atlantic Eye Optometry staff

Dr Gangisetty credits an early interest in learning about the human body for her desire to work in a healthcare field. “As I got more exposure to eye care and how our systemic health can translate to our eye health as well, I knew I wanted to help people not only take care of their eyes but also their overall health,” she explains.

Dr. Gangisetty decided to join our practice after completing a residency with Atlantic Eye physicians affiliated with SUNY College of Optometry. “Atlantic Eye has a special place in my heart,” she says. “I learned so much here working with the other outstanding doctors. The staff is also wonderful and really puts patients first.”

She earned her Doctor of Optometry from New England College of Optometry, and specializes in ocular disease, emergency eye care, comprehensive eye care, and contact lenses. As part of her commitment to providing the highest quality, personalized eye care, Dr. Gangisetty aims to develop strong doctor-patient relationships.

In addition to reading and dancing, Dr. Gangisetty counts travel among her personal interests.  “I enjoy hearing about what my patients are reading and about all their travel adventures,” she says.
Everyone at Atlantic Eye is pleased to welcome Dr. Sushma Gangisetty to our professional staff of optometrists.

Atlantic Eye welcomes Austin B. Molbegott, O.D.

It’s 2024, and Atlantic Eye is growing! We are pleased to announce that Dr. Austin Molbegott has joined our team as one of the newest staff optometrists. Dr. Molbegott looks forward to re-establishing his relationship with Atlantic Eye following his prior experience serving as one of the practice’s ophthalmic technicians and clinicians. “This practice offers a warm and inviting yet professional environment where I learned from the best,” he says. “Now I want to give back to the doctors who helped me be my best in my chosen field of optometry.”

Additionally, Dr. Molbegott is well acquainted with the field of eye care as both of his parents were physicians. He gained initial exposure by shadowing his mother, who has long served as Atlantic Eye’s primary anesthesiologist. However, while simultaneously shadowing Dr. Ronald Kristan within the operating room, Dr. Molbegott became highly motivated to enter the world of eye care. “The eye is such a fascinating organ,” he says. He went on to earn a Doctorate in Optometry from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and completed a Residency in Ocular Disease/Primary Eye Care at the Veteran’s Association Medical Center in Salem, VA.

Dr. Molbegott aims to provide unparalleled quality eye care in a patient-friendly environment. He specializes in ocular disease, emergency eye care, contact lenses as well as comprehensive eye care. He is certified by the American Board of Certification in Medical Optometry and National Board of Examiners in Optometry.

Among his varied personal interests, Dr. Molbegott includes martial arts and exploring restaurants. He now brings his experience and expertise in optometry to the Atlantic Eye team.

Dr. Joseph Kristan Joins the Atlantic Eye Team

This month, ophthalmologist Joseph Kristan, M.D., FAAO joins the family of eye care professionals at Atlantic Eye –literally family, since his father Ronald and brother Jonathan are currently among the ophthalmologists with the practice. In fact, Dr. Kristan attributes his inspiration to a charitable trip on which his dad provided cataract surgery to those who are less fortunate. “Vision is so important,” he says, “and I wanted to be a doctor who helps people by caring for their visual health.”

Dr. Kristan specializes in cataract, cornea, and refractive surgery, and comprehensive eye care. He is excited about the ever-growing variety of medical technologies and procedures available that allow him to serve patients with the most up-to-date and effective diagnoses and treatments. He enjoys learning about and teaching medical advances in vision care, and he has earned multiple teaching awards.

Joseph Kristan earned his MD from Stony Brook University School of Medicine, Stony Brook, NY. He completed a residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center, and a fellowhip in cornea, refractive surgery, and external disease from Columbia University/NY Presbyterian. He holds certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology.
