Jonathan Ply, MD graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA). He earned his Medical Degree in Bethesda, Maryland under a military scholarship program, graduating in the top ten percent of his class. Dr. Ply served his internship at the Naval Regional Medical Center in San Diego, California. He then completed flight surgeon training in Pensacola, Florida prior to deploying out of Miramar, California, on the aircraft carrier USS Ranger.
His 2 1/2 years on the carrier allowed him the privilege of caring for the eye care needs of F-14 Fighter Pilots! Dr. Ply returned to the Naval Regional Medical Center in San Diego to complete a three-year residency in Ophthalmology. With a love of the ocean and a desire to establish a private practice, Dr. Ply requested a transfer to serve his remaining four years at the Naval Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, where he was quickly promoted to Chairman of the Ophthalmology Department.
“While our practice is modern, our practice philosophy is based on ‘old fashioned’ values like integrity, respect, and personalized care!”
In June of 1997, he opened his own practice, Atlantic Eye LLC, in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. Establishing himself as a leader in the field of Ophthalmology, Dr. Ply was the first Myrtle Beach area eye doctor to offer Lasik and was the first to offer new technology Presbyopia-Correcting Intraocular Lens Implants to cataract patients.
As Medical Director of Atlantic Eye, Dr. Ply has developed this region’s most advanced, state of the art, ophthalmic facility and has performed tens of thousands of refractive surgery procedures in the Myrtle Beach area.
