Questions to Ask When Considering LASIK Surgery

If you’re considering LASIK surgery, you’ll want to know what to expect before, during and after the procedure. In order for the eye to see clear images, the cornea and the lens must bend or curve light rays so they can focus clearly on the retina. LASIK surgery is a laser procedure in which your LASIK eye doctor modifies the shape of the cornea and treats refractive errors. More than 20 million people around the world have undergone LASIK eye surgery, the vast majority (over 99%) with successful outcomes. At Atlantic Eye LLC, all of our services are provided on site, from your evaluation, surgery or treatments to your follow up.

Jonathan Ply, MD and the staff of Atlantic Eye LLC will complete a full eye examination to ensure you are a good candidate for the procedure before your LASIK surgery is scheduled. During the exam with your LASIK eye doctor, be sure to ask the questions below and any others you may have, in regards to LASIK eye surgery.

What is your LASIK experience?

Before your LASIK procedure, Dr. Ply will evaluate the health of your eyes and begin to create your individual treatment plan. A series of special computerized tests will be performed to obtain precise measurements to aid Dr. Ply in determining a customized LASIK treatment for you. Dr. Ply is a Board-Certified ophthalmologist that’s been performing Lasik and other vision correction procedures since 1994, and has performed tens of thousands of successful procedures.

What results can I expect from LASIK surgery?

LASIK eye surgery takes only five to fifteen minutes and is typically pain free. Patients can see a dramatic change in their vision within 24 hours. The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery reports 96% of patients with healthy eyes achieve 20/20 vision or better. The most common comment we hear from our patients is, “I wish I would have done this long ago!”

What happens post-surgery?

Your LASIK surgery will take no longer than 20 minutes at the Atlantic Eye facility. You can expect dramatically improved vision the next day, with little to no downtime. The LASIK specialist will work you to set a follow-up appointment, which is typically within 24 hours of your procedure.

What if I need an enhancement?

During your pre-LASIK procedure consultation, ask your specialist about after-care, particularly needed enhancements. While extremely rare, research firm Market Scope, reports about 5% of LASIK patients will need an enhancement. The Atlantic Eye team will explain in post-procedure appointments how your eyes are healing and when you should experience full results.

How much is LASIK for each eye?

The cost of LASIK eye surgery can vary depending on your individual needs. The Atlantic Eye team offers a free evaluation to determine if the eye surgery is right for you. In addition, you can learn more about how to receive $400 in LASIK savings, that’s $200 off per eye.

Will my insurance cover the cost of LASIK?

While most insurances view LASIK eye surgery as a cosmetic or elective procedure, there are some ways to have the insurance company cover your costs. Atlantic Eye accepts most health insurance plans. Our staff can help you with your individual plan questions.
